Our Story
Born from a crisis.
Built on hope.
In 2009, the conflict in Swat left thousands of children without parents and without a future. Parwarish was founded to change that — one child at a time.
The Beginning
35 children. One house. A promise.
In 2009, as military operations swept through Swat Valley, hundreds of thousands of families were displaced. Among the most vulnerable were children who had lost one or both parents - left without shelter, food, or the possibility of an education.
Muhammad Tariq, a local teacher who had seen the devastation first-hand, opened his doors. What began with 35 children crowded into a single house grew, slowly and steadily, into what Parwarish is today - a fully operational care facility supporting over 265 children.
The name Parwarish (پرواریش) means “upbringing” or “nurturing” in Urdu. It was chosen deliberately, because this is not just a shelter. It is a home.

Our Journey
16 years, one mission
Parwarish Founded
In the aftermath of the Swat conflict, Muhammad Tariq opened the doors of Parwarish to 35 orphaned children who had nowhere to go. With limited resources and immeasurable determination, the foundation was laid.
First Purpose-Built Facility
With the support of early donors, Parwarish moved into its first purpose-built facility in Swat, providing proper dormitories, classrooms, and a kitchen for growing number of children.
Girls Programme Launched
Recognising the particular vulnerability of orphaned girls, Parwarish launched the Mumtaz Block — a dedicated, secure facility providing safe accommodation and tailored support for girls.
Partnership with Pakistan Association Dubai
A landmark partnership with the Pakistan Association Dubai brought significant new funding and international visibility, enabling Parwarish to expand its capacity and programmes.
Healthcare Programme Established
A dedicated healthcare programme was established, providing regular check-ups, dental care, and vaccinations for all children, as well as emergency medical support.
200 Children Milestone
Despite the challenges of the global pandemic, Parwarish reached a milestone: 200 children in our care. The team adapted with remarkable resilience, maintaining education and wellbeing throughout.
Dining Area Renovation
A major renovation of our dining facilities created a warm, welcoming space where children gather for meals — improving the communal experience and celebrating the importance of shared moments.
265+ Children & Growing
Parwarish now supports over 265 children, including 77 girls. As we enter our 16th year, we remain committed to our founding vision: that every orphaned child deserves dignity, care, and a future full of possibility.
