Ibrahim's Story
“Finding his voice through sport.”

Ibrahim was withdrawn and struggled with anger when he joined Parwarish. Football became his language — and today he leads our junior team and mentors new arrivals.
Ibrahim arrived at Parwarish at nine years old carrying a grief too large for his small frame. He had watched his mother's health deteriorate for two years before losing her, and the weight of it had turned inward. He was withdrawn, prone to sudden outbursts, and deeply reluctant to trust anyone.
Our caregiving team were patient. They didn't push. They simply showed up, consistently, every day, until Ibrahim began to let them in. The turning point came during a Friday afternoon football match — Ibrahim, it turned out, was gifted. On the pitch, something loosened in him.
Football became his anchor. Through sport, he found his voice, then his friendships, then his sense of self. Five years on, Ibrahim captains our junior football team. He is also one of the most effective peer mentors for new arrivals — the children who arrive with the same closed-off grief he once carried.
"I tell them it gets better," he says, "because it did for me."
